Daniel MÜLLER
GUITAR
Biography
Austrian concert guitarist Daniel Müller is one of those musicians whose playing is equally impressive for its precision and musical expressiveness. His musical career was shaped at the Tyrolean State Conservatory in the class of Dr Stefan Hackl and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Prof. Alvaro Pierri – he completed both courses with distinction.
The musician enjoyed early success in competitions at home and abroad and received scholarships from renowned institutions (Sobotka-Janeczek Foundation, Dr Robert and Lina Thyll-Dürr, Live Music Now). Since then, his concert activities have taken him to numerous countries in Europe and South America. He has played solo recitals at venues such as the Vienna Konzerthaus and has appeared as a soloist with various orchestras, including the Filarmonica de Stat Satu Mare, Filarmonica Brașov, Filarmonica de Stat Sibiu, Kapella Istropolitana and Webern Sinfonietta. In 2008, his solo CD A Waltz for Maurice was released on the Viennese label Preiser Records.
In recent years, Daniel Müller has increasingly discovered a love for chamber music. In 2012, he founded the Duo Ohrwärmer with flutist Sascha Rathey, an ensemble that has made a name for itself through creative programming, a fine sense of chamber music and numerous video productions. In 2022, the duo also launched the Innsbruck Masterclasses, which accompany young musicians on their way to studying music.
Another important artistic partnership has connected the musician with Argentine guitarist Raúl Funes since 2016. The Duo MüllerFunes is dedicated to Latin American and Spanish soundscapes and has already performed in Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Romania and Argentina. Concerts at the Conservatorio Reina Sofía in Madrid, the National Theatre in Cluj and invitations to various guitar festivals such as Forum Gitarre Wien and the Hallein Guitar Festival describe the work of recent years. TV productions in Argentina, projects with the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra and work with various tango ensembles testify to the versatility of this duo. In 2024, they released their joint CD Musica Latina, a tribute to the musical folklore of Argentina, Brazil and Cuba.
In addition to his concert career, Daniel Müller is also shaping the next generation of guitarists. From 2009 to 2012, he worked as an assistant to Prof. Pierri at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna; since autumn 2012, he has been professor of guitar at the Tyrolean State Conservatory. The promotion of young talent is particularly close to his heart – his students' numerous competition successes are a testament to his great pedagogical commitment.
