Biography

Jan Janković was born into a musical family and began playing the horn at the age of seven.

His exceptional talent became evident very early, and by the age of only eleven he was already admitted to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), one of Europe’s most prestigious music institutions.

As a child prodigy, he appeared as a soloist with leading Croatian ensembles, including the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, and performed with the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra.

These early performances were frequently broadcast on television and radio, marking the beginning of an international musical path.

In 1996, he received the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra Award for Best Young Croatian Musician, a significant early recognition of his outstanding promise.

From 2003 to 2006, Jan Janković was a horn player with the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, gaining extensive orchestral experience in the Austrian musical landscape.

He then continued his career with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra from 2006 to 2008.

Since 2008, he has been a full member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, performing on the world’s most renowned stages under the baton of the leading conductors of our time. His career with these ensembles includes countless opera productions, symphonic concerts, and international tours around the world.

In addition to his orchestral career, Jan Janković is deeply committed to education. He has given numerous masterclasses and taught extensively in Europe, Japan, and the United States, passing on his artistic experience to younger generations of musicians.
