Biography

Queenie is a music educator with over eighteen years of teaching experience, specializing in piano and harp. In 2007, she attained the Trinity College London Licentiate in Piano Recital (LTCL). She subsequently completed a Master of Arts in Music Education at The Education University of Hong Kong in 2015 with distinction, and in 2016 earned, also with distinction, the ABRSM Diploma in Instrumental/Vocal Teaching (DipABRSM) and the Certificate of Teaching (CTABRSM). Her professional training and ongoing development equip her with both the theoretical grounding and practical expertise in performance and pedagogy.

In her teaching practice, Queenie has long been devoted to children’s music education and early years music learning. She has served as an instructor at a renowned music academy and as a piano accompanist for a children’s choir, actively engaging in a wide range of performances and school-based and community activities. Firmly believing that performance is integral to the learning journey, she regularly organizes student recitals to provide public performance platforms that build stage experience and confidence. In recent years, she has diversified her work to extend music education to different communities and settings, including teaching harp at special schools and undertaking volunteer teaching in piano and harp in Myanmar, with the aim of meeting social needs through her expertise and broadening children’s access to quality music learning.

Guided by the principle of “teaching according to individual needs and unlocking potential,” Queenie values students’ differences and motivations, and draws on her performance experience in piano and harp to design instruction that is sequenced, developmental, and inspiring. She pursues continuous professional learning in both teaching and performance to stay current and to lead by example. She also integrates varied forms of assessment and reflective practice into her curriculum design, helping students build solid technique, musical understanding, and stage presence.

Beyond music education, Queenie has a professional background in expressive arts therapy. She completed a master’s program in Expressive Arts Therapy at The University of Hong Kong and is now a registered expressive arts therapist. She provides services across diverse settings, including serving as a guest lecturer at universities, participating in academic research projects, delivering workshops and professional training for social service practitioners and school teachers, and conducting individual sessions and group work in primary and secondary schools. She thoughtfully incorporates the concepts and methods of arts therapy into her teaching and team collaborations, attending to learners’ emotional well-being and holistic development, and is committed to fostering growth, connection, and community care through music and the arts.
